My One-Woman Show

Posted in a recent church newsletter:

PinkAndBlueReceptionTableGallery1551“PAULA PETERSON’S ‘ONE WOMAN ART SHOW’
Opens Aug 7, Gallery 1551, located at 1551 Montgomery Drive, Santa Rosa, CA

(First United Methodist Church)

Paula has been making and selling art all her life, and painting in watercolor for more than 20 years. She has studied with many local and national artists, and has come to love mixed media as well. Paula currently hosts workshops in “Soul Painting,” a wonderful, meditative form of art-play.

A member of Watercolor Artists of Sonoma County (WASCO), Paula’s first and best love is painting plein aire in watercolor, ‘where time stops and the painting is all there is.’  More recently, she has been working with mosaics in a process called “Pique Assiette.” Literally translated, it means plate thief and relies on tesserae (mosaic bits) from broken china and crockery.”

The Open Doors Project

The Sketchbook Project

Well, I have had my moleskin sketchbook for a couple of months now and finally did a random page.  My theme is “Help!”  The first completed two-page spread is a Zen tangle.  I put a cartoon of me in it looking like I need help getting untangled.  Fun!  I looked up my link on the Sketchbook Project’s website at:  http://arthousecoop.com/users/paulalpeterson  Didn’t realize I would have a link there–or I forgot that I would.  Not much info on it.  Help!  I need to remedy that!  (Pic to come.)

Workshop Scheduled January 22, 2011

Can’t wait to see everyone there!

“Muse Mind”

http://susancornelis.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/paula.jpg

MUSE MIND

Like a comet it comes
Spinning, swirling, streaking
Through the dark void
Blazing, burning, barreling
Towards us at warp speed.
Or, is it sneaking up behind us
A surprise to explore
In the universe of our minds
As we work at building or creating.
The Muse comes in
And suddenly, like a shock of lightening
We know exactly, or mostly
What we will create.
Something new, never before, nicely done
Or…is it?
Is it mine, really?
Or, is it her’s, that sneaky muse!
Is that she, giggling somewhere out there
In the dark void?
Come back, oh Muse of Delight!

(The above is my prose, written as I looked at the new collage I did today at Susan’s studio.  She took a photo and I will post it here when I receive it.)  The drive out there was spectacular!  The countryside was filled with riotous color, vineyards, fruit trees and garden landscapes.  Must paint, must paint, must paint….

From Napa

Cool new blog started by my friends Isabelle and Christine from Napa.  They invite artists to join to paint the monthly photo then, post the result on their blog.  They are sooo smart!  What a fun new art prompt!  This is their website graphic, not the painting of the month.  I wonder which one of them painted them painted this?  Hmmm….

NorthBayPleinAir

Graveyards and Halloween just seem to go together.  A friend, Isabelle, invited me to paint at the graveyard in the town of Bodega today along with the North Bay Plein Air Painters.  They have a Meet Up website she found and I looked at.  Nice group of folks.  No critique, though everyone gets together before they begin apparently.  I arrived too late for this.  I’ll post my work when it is finished.  To see the graveyard and the groups website go here:  http://nbpleinair.blogspot.com/  It was a very peaceful place to paint, not surprisingly, and the weather was perfect!

This should take you to a photo taken while I was just starting the painting.

COMING IN JANUARY!

During the gallery show, there was a sign up sheet for folks wanting to attend a workshop about the collage process used in most of the pieces that were hanging.  Unfortunately, that sign up sheet disappeared.  That is okay, because people may sign up again here.*

Saturday, January 22, 2011, will be the next Soul Painting workshop.  It is to be held at the Stony Point/Giffen Avenue campus of the First United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa, just south of Sebastopol Road.  Time will be 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  This will be a Christ-centered fun and spiritual workshop in which participants will connect to deeper meaning through art play.  NO artistic ability is needed!  Bring your sense of humor and your faith.  The workshop is free, but there is a materials fee of $25.

*If you would like to sign up for this workshop, email me at:  paulalpeterson@gmail.com  (Members of the First United Methodist Church have priority.)

‘Joy’ — S O L D !

This is a mixed media piece, ‘Joy,’ that was part of my 3-month solo exhibit.  A woman called me this morning to ask to buy it!  Deal!  The exhibit comes down tomorrow so, we will meet then and she will become the owner of it.  It will be a gift, so flattering!
